In our debut print issue 01 of Sanxtuary Magazine we interviewed Tiaynna (@tiaynnaa) and found out about the in's and out's of her ethereal beauty creations & style inspirations! We've now brought that print interview online!
Hi Tiaynna! So happy to have you in conversation with Sanxtaury! Tell Us about yourself and what you do!
Hey!! Thank you for having me. I am Tiaynna, I am an Influencer/Plus size model/Makeup artist. I am 19, I am also a Virgo!! I love to cook in my free time and hangout with the people I love. but! I also love alone time lol. I am low-key a music nerd. I love that music exists. the fact it has the power to change someone’s whole mood is pretty powerful.
Who was your first fashion influence, and who is your most recent influence now?
Rihanna, Rihanna, RiRi, and badgalriri. I feel most would think I would look up to someone more my size. But I think that’s a bit biased. The main reason why I look up to her and still do to this day, Is because of the way she executed her own way of fashion. and! how she determines her outfits. Is so relatable. In her fashion show for Savage X Fenty, I believe the 1st volume, She spoke a lot about how she built her empire and what it’s based on. It was so inspiring seeing that. Going to different counties, trying different fabrics, and patterns. She spoke about her personal style and depending on how she feels on that day, will literally determine her outfit. And, that spoke to me. It kinda told me to not force something that you’re not. Go by the beat of your own drum. Rather it be a sweatpants and white tee day, you’re still poppin and nobody can tell you less. But besides all that her outfits are fire!!! the embodiment of feminine energy just exudes off of her! it’s so beautiful.
What is your current favorite trend, a trend you hope to see in the future, and a trend you think needs to die?
My current favorite trend is most definitely this star makeup trend! Yes, stars has always been it. But, it’s gotten very popular. Stars are just so cute! A trend I would like to see, I hope this doesn’t come off controversial, but I need us plus women to be on the runway! I need that to be a trend. Im talking about the Louis Vuitton’s, Gucci, Vivian Westwood’s. The list could quite literally go on forever. But it’s 2022 it’s time for these brilliant designers to get realistic. These clothes shouldn’t stop at a L or XL…I will not support any brand that doesn’t have an open plus size section. Or that doesn’t represent mid to plus size people. A trend that I think needs to go is; smaller people buying plus size clothes to make a 2 pieces or to wear these huge pants with a BB Simone belts… I personally don’t know what they’re trying to execute but it’s not it. then I can’t even find my size in the store! It’s just something I hope to see not continue.
You seem to have pioneered your own aesthetic that takes influence from y2k, fairycore, and grunge styles. How would you describe your aesthetic, and if you had to make up a name for it, what would you call it?
I would call my style ethereal, otherworldly. I don’t really have a set name. But that’s the best I can describe it as. I would like to say I go based off of the clothes that are currently trending then put my own spin on it. or whatever I think is like eye catching I’ll try my best to recreate it.
You create some iconic makeup and hair combos- where do you pull inspiration from when coming up with these stunning styles?
The best place on the planet to get some inspiration is Pinterest. I have my own account @Tiaynna! Pinterest gives me ideas or ways to think outside of the box. But! that’s only sometimes. Most of the time I come up with an idea and I try to see what I have to execute it. If not, improvise. I remember putting paper clips on my nails, I am not sure why but it was cute and different at the time. Plus it was kinda iconic..lol.
Lots of people look to you for fashion and makeup inspiration- what advice would you give to others who are trying to find their own unique style, and how they can confidently pull it off.
People are very scared. Let me elaborate. I went live maybe a week or two ago and I got asked; “What’s your inspo?”, “How do you do what you do?”, “How do you come up with these concepts?”, and lastly “How do you have the confidence to do it?”. I truly can’t explain it. Everything I do is definitely rooted from my inner child. I felt like I was kinda dulled down as a child because certain things would be “too grown” or adults would make comments. like getting different hair colors and styles, just the smallest of things in my opinion. That would be deemed inappropriate, or some families would make comments about young children’s bodies. with that being said I feel like that instilled some type of fear or insecurity. And overtime I, myself, just started to stop caring. Of course certain things come with age however when it come to self expression, there shouldn’t be a barrier. I feel like parents/ guardians should and should’ve given their children a chance to express themselves. Without judgment, comments, etc.. Society plays a huge role but it starts with the foundation. The years of adolescence is when we’re most influenced by words and actions. I know this honestly doesn’t answer your question, but I feel like being able to do what you want confidently you have to let go of certain thoughts and ideas. Be who you’ve always wanted to be. Make your inner child happy. Because your inner child has so much creativity and so much drive.
Tell us about some of the goals and aspirations you have for the future! Any exciting projects we should keep an eye out for?
I want to be and will be the next plus size model!!!! I want to show the world you can be any size and be anything you want to be. There’s gonna be a collab collection coming out!!!! I don’t wanna say too much but I am so excited!!
